I have these balance springs on about six windows that are broken. Various lengths. But you'll see the Gap Gap is exactly 1/2 in. So I'm assuming that the balance spring itself is the 5/8 model but I'm not sure till I take one out. Need to know if you can identify it and if you have a replacement model, or something compatible that will work.

Thanks for reaching out to us! This appears to be a fairly typical, if older style, tilt window spiral balance. That means you only have two options to pick from: the 9/16" diameter Series 600 or the 3/8" diameter Series 900. You will need to measure the diameter of the tube to verify the better option.

I have received the new springs and the shoes, but i am having difficulty figureing out how to put the pivot shoe in the slot where it goes. I might have a size that is too big.

That's not something I can really judge. You'll need to compare the size of the old shoe with the size of your new shoe. If they differ in any way, let me know exactly how and we can work from there.
