No markings. Sunroom windows - house built in 1990. Dysfunctional spring balances.

One by one our sunroom windows won't stay up. The house was built in 1990. There are no markings that we can see. We would prefer to replace the balances rather than the windows as the frames, glass and wood all seem to be in good condition. It's also hard to find someone who is interested in helping.

Hello!

Given that this is a wood window, our Series 500 spiral balance and 17-012 bracket (sold separately) may be able to be used as a replacement. Look over the specifications and see what you think.

When it comes to determining the proper length, you have to get the height of just the visible glass and then add 3" if it's for the bottom sash and 1" if it's for the top sash. For example, if the visible glass is 15" high for both sashes, then you want an 18" long balance (bottom sash) and a 16" long balance (top sash).

As for figuring out the proper tip color, you will need to weigh the sash on a scale and refer to the chart under the Series 500 product description.

I'm afraid the marking on your windows doesn't tell us anything about the hardware it uses. However, our recommendation above remains the same.

Thank you! I'm willing to pay someone good money to do this but all the window people I've contacted don't seem to be interested. Can you recommend someone in the Chapel Hill NC area who could take on this project?

All of our contacts are located in South Jersey so we're not familiar with your area, unfortunately. I am very sorry for the inconvenience.
