Non Tilt Window Spiral Balance

Landlord from Fayetteville, AR
I have to replace some non-tilt balances, and I'm not sure what I need to order. The balance I took out of our window measures 36.5" and 3/8". It has a red tip.

Also, on some of our windows, the metal piece on the actual moving window that connects to the bottom of the balance is broken. The windows are not removable, is there any way to fix that?

If you have non-tilt windows, I'd recommend our S400-37 spiral balance based on your measurements. As for removing the window, I'm afraid there is no way to do this. Some non-tilt windows are not designed to be removed. Fortunately, we have a way to work around it.

With someone helping you, you will need to drop the new balance in from the top of the sash, screw it in at the top, then let the spiral drop down. You will then raise the sash and, while someone holds the sash in the open position, spin the spiral up to the bottom of the sash. Finally, with our 75-004 tool, give the balance about three turns to charge it and lock it to the end into the sash clip.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
