Not locking

A quick learner from St. Louis Missouri says:
When you turn the locking mechanism, the mortise latch is not coming out of the end of the door to catch. Should the mortise latch be replaced?

It definitely sounds like the mortise is shot, yes. One easy way to confirm is to remove the handle set from the door and attempt to throw the mortise manually, like with a screwdriver or something similar. Anything that's flat and can fit in the slot.

If the problem persists, then the mortise is broken. My recommendation for replacement would be the 82-218.
