Not sure I have the right part

Question

I bought the 82-033 that looks just like my old one. I have a few problems though.

1. The inside handle has bumps on the part that sits flush with the door where the screws go in which means it doesn't sit flat, there is a gap making the handle not as strong or stable. My old one had a flat surface that sat flat against the door when screwed in. In picture 2 you can see the dark 2 spots in the crack. Those are the bumps I am talking about. Picture 3 shows the patent number on the old one, that's the only writing I see. Picture 4 shows what the handle looks like. My old one no longer shows brown but the outside is the same shape

2. My lock that is in the door is broken. When raising the lever up and down it doesnt come out enough to hook the latch and lock the door. I could probably get a new one which was my next move since I didn't order one but none of the screws loosen so it will not come out. So I am not sure how to get those out there are 3 screws what wont budge and its striping my screw driver and screws. Maybe there is a way to fix the latch without taking it out? Picture 1 shows how far the latch comes out when moving the lever.

Thanks for contacting us. I see what you mean about the bumps. You could perhaps try filing the holes in your door to be a bit larger to accommodate them, or you could try going for a different handle set. For example, the inside pull of our 82-035 handle set is completely flush (but the outside handle is not, which means you'd have to re-use your old one). It also has the same 3-15/16" hole spacing and is fully compatible with your mortise lock.

Speaking of your mortise lock, if it's broken then I'm afraid there's no way to repair it. Your only solution is to swap it out for a new one (our 82-218). The screws may be corroded. Maybe try soaking them in WD-40 to loosen them up. You're going to have to find a way to get those screws out if you want a functional mortise lock. There's no other way around it, unfortunately.
