The number stamped on our springs is 6#. Is that a 6 or a 9? Does the # symbol refer to "number" or "pound"?

The Series 180 Coil Balance is a stainless steel roller-tilt coil. Coil spring sash balances are also known as constant force balances. The coil measures 15/32" wide.

Before I order springs, I need someone to confirm that the number on the attached picture represents 6 pounds, or is it 9 pounds? The # symbol usually means "number". Does it also refer to "pounds"?

Thanks for contacting us. I agree, this looks like our Series 180 spring. Looking at your stamp, I'd wager it's a 6. After all, the other markings that read CMC-310 and 35" EXT would be upside down if it were a 9.
The "#" symbol in this case does indicate pounds. This would be our S180-6, each of which can carry 6 pounds per spring. You can weigh your sash on a scale to be 100% sure. For example, if you have 1 spring on each side of the window, the sash should be 12 pounds. If you have two springs per side, your sash should be 24 pounds. Does that make sense?
