Hello! The 82-086 should be fully compatible with your door, I agree. As long as the installation holes match at 3-15/16" then you should be good to go.

Your door is fairly versatile so you actually have other options, too, if you weren't a fan of this style. See our 82-030B for another keyed handle set that will work on this door.

The only way to properly measure the right cut for the tail piece is to use the original as a reference. If you don't have an original, then your only option is trial and error. You'll need to cut off a little bit at a time and try it out until you find the right length.

It's a time consuming process, to be sure, but there is no easier way.
