Hi, I need to replace (or repair) the balance springs in several of our older Pella windows.
The single hung windows are wood but have a metal jamb on the sides. I pulled the spring cover off from the top and it looks like everything is still attached with two strings intact. One string is over a small pulley.
The window will only open a small bit from 1/2 in to an inch and then they are stuck.
I can't figure out how to remove the bottom window to get to the bottom of the spring tract as the rest of the jamb is one piece. PLEASE help.

Hi- thanks for posting!
You'll need to remove the balances from the window for us to be able to determine the best replacement option for you. Once you remove them, take some clear photos of each of the nylon attachments on either end. Also, measure the length of just the metal channel, and take a picture of the stamp that is printed on the side of your balance. This will give us all the information we need to determine if we have a replacement option for you.

I need help info on how to remove the bottom window so I can get to the bottom of the spring mount to be able to do that.

Does your wood sash tilt in? If so, tilt in and twist the top and bottom sashes to remove them. Then you can remove the aluminum jamb liners. If they don't tilt in, remove the inside side window trim, lower the top and raise the bottom sash to meet in the middle, then pull the the sashes out completely with the jamb liners. I recommend having help for this.
In either case, I don't think we have a replacement for these balances. I would take them to your nearest mill work and they will set you up with a new set of jamb liners.
