I have a Pella Storm door that will not open. The handle turns OK and the lock works but the door will not open. I removed the two mounting screws that on are the interior face plate but it does not release the mechanism. I have attached pictures of the lock that is on our second door. It feels like the locking latch in the lock body is catching and does not recess enough. These locks will installed 10 years ago and I cannot find the keys. Thank you for your help.

Hey, Bob. I'm not sure what the problem may be. It really does sound like a problem with the mortise lock but I'm not sure. An easy way to confirm is to try to throw the mortise manually with a screwdriver. If it works, then there's another issue at play. If it doesn't work, then you've found the culprit. Assuming the mortise lock is the problem then I recommend our 40-191. |
How do I throw the mortise manually? Insert screwdriver through key hole? (Pardon my ignorance)
Thanks

Yep, pretty much. It may be a little awkward since the spindle holes in the mortise are square, but with a broad enough slotted screwdriver you should be able to turn it without issue. It doesn't even have to be a screwdriver, basically just anything that can get in there. I've even used my car keys once. |
