Photos of old and new

Quick Learner from Sarasota, Fl
Hi Steve- here's the photos of old and new- new on the left. I do see the difference now in where the coils are placed. I selected that balance and shoes after a conversation with a swisco specialist about 2-3 months ago. The shoes again worked great. The old balance says 27-D-40. The length is a touch over 28'. I'm sorry I don't have the string attached to the old one, it was so far gone when I initially took it out.

Your old balance looks like an older version of our Series 770, but without seeing the clip at the end of the cord there will be no way for me to confirm that. I know it seems like a small detail but it is very important, since that determines how it connects to the pivot shoe, which in turn connects to the sash.

What I can tell you at least is that the position and size of the spring itself is not important. Different manufacturers use different springs, and sometimes they won't be the same size or even installed in the same way. That doesn't impact function in any way whatsoever, though. As long as they're calibrated correctly then you'll be fine. In your case, you can weigh your sash on a scale to confirm which S770-28 stamp option is the best calibration for your window.

That is assuming that the Series 770 is the right option. I would triple check just to see if there's another balance in the house that still has all its fittings in place.
