Pivot Shoe "slots"

I notices three "slots" in the pivot shoe at my house, and the video shows the same. My balance was slotted in the middle one, but at approximately 1:35 of the video, the balance is inserted into the right slot. When do you use one over the other? The film makes no mention of this.

It doesn't really matter which one you use, as long as it's either the right or left slot.

UH OH. Every window I have looked at has it slotted in the middle. Will this result in the pivot shoe breaking? Do I need to change them all? You should mention this in the video.

I don't think it will cause your pivot shoes to break, no. We just think that the balance fits more comfortably from either the right or left side.
