Pivot Shoes identification

Home Owner from Florida
Jeldwen Windows, I cannot tell if these are 15-179 or something different.  I noticed that for the dept dimension of 9/16" I had to measure the full depth of the shoe, which is more than the plastic housing.  I also noticed the width is off by ~1/32.  I was able to match the balance on the window to an S600-29 Black tip. Please confirm if 15-179 is correct.  Also, any reason why the shoe retainer would split open the way it did? Does this indicate other issues with the window?

Hello,

I agree that the 15-179 would be our closest match to your pivot shoe but note that the depth only includes the housing, not the metal cam. The width also appears the same. The manufacturer will often round the measurement to the nearest 16th" since 59/64" would be difficult for customers to measure. Just let us know if you have any other questions and thanks for posting!

Thanks.  I placed an order for 8 of each to repair 4 windows.  Figured it's best to go ahead and replace both shoes and balances in both windows. Anything else I should do or look at in order to prevent the failure from re-occurring?  Also, would a paraffin wax coating to reduce friction be wise or is there another lubricant I should use on the vinyl track / plastic shoes?

You should be good to go as long as there is no debris in the track or other damaged parts. One note I would make is that the black tip S600-29 spiral balances support a particularly heavy sash between 31-40 pounds. Make sure to confirm your window falls within that range and the housing tube has the same 5/8" diameter. We generally recommend silicone spray as a lubricant for jamb liners.
