the new pivot bar fits the shoe, but when placed in the
window is too short to reach the shoe. The older bar round head does not fit the shoe. The installation holes match. Is there a different bar i should use?

Unfortunately, we don't have a pivot bar that meets the specifications of the original while still being compatible with the new style balance. The one you bought can still work but you will need to drill new holes in order for it to better align with the balance shoe. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience!
