Pivot shoe for window

Don't know what this part is called and can't find it in the hardware stores...it's on a single hung window seems to be a coiled strip of metal that helps lift and hold window up.

Yep, this is called a coil balance system and it performs the exact function you describe. What exactly is broken? If you need an all new coil balance setup, we'll need a picture of the pivot shoe it attaches to so that we can find a match.
