How do I replace the pivot shoe? Do I have to cut a slot in the frame to remove and install the new pivot shoe?

Thanks for posting! First, I would check your jamb to see if there is already a pre-made cutout for your pivot shoe. These are usually located at the top of the window track, usually hidden behind the sash stops.
If not, then it will be necessary to make your own cutout. The video below will go into more detail as to how this can be done. We also sell the 75-069 jamb spreaders, which supersede the need to make a cutout, but we generally don't recommend using this tool unless you plan on repairing a lot of windows. If you're only dealing with one or two windows then the cutout method should suffice.
