Please help with balance ridiculousness!

Question

The channel balances in the window are different, which from what i read should not be the case.

Window is 14 pounds in weight.
Balances are both 1/2" wide.
Both are stamped 25 3.
Both have the same top hardware.

Channel 1 has pulley assembly built into bottom hardware is 25 5/8" long.
Channel 2 has pulley assembly in channel is 25 15/16" long.

Channel 1 had a thicker hook attached to the string.
Channel 2 had a smaller hook attached and an eye attached to the string.

I have no idea what this looked like attached to the window.

Please know that construction on this house was done as cheaply as possible 25 years ago so it is possible that the answer is not to replace exactly what is there.

You are correct that most windows should use the same type of balance assembly on both sides. It looks like your window uses an extended-travel pulley system that you've labeled channel 1, which was replaced on one side with a more standard type of balance that they likely had on hand. With that being said, I can't guarantee that it is not the other way around and the standard balance was replaced with the extended-travel balance. To confirm, I would recommend checking the other windows in the house to see which type of balances they use.
