Prisma by Simonton Window Pivot Lock Shoes

Got a little carried away cleaning these windows and broke a couple of the pivot lock shoes. Can't quite figure out the replacement part. These are 1 1/2 inches tall, 1 1/4 inches wide and 13/16 inches deep.

Showing a broken one and one that still works.

Please advise.

P..S These windows are at least 10 years old, maybe 15.

Hey there - have the problem as above with same looking balance shoes. Doesn't look like they make these parts anymore? Is the 15-192 still the best option for replacement?

No, the Simonton balance is no longer made. Thankfully we have two possible solutions for you to consider.

The first is our 15-192 pivot shoe, that we recommended to the customer above, along with our Series 170 coil spring (and other parts related to its store page). This is a Certainteed brand part but I have had customers in the past tell me that they got it to work after grinding down the front of the face, which sticks out just a little too far for this window.

The other option is a more modern replacement that I think works just as well, if not better, since it's not prone to breaking in half like your old one is. The video below will go into more detail. This will explain exactly what parts you need to buy and how you can install them in your window. Just note that you will need the exact weight of your sash on hand in order to calculate the proper spring strength. You want to divide that weight by how many springs support the sash, then pick accordingly.

I look to that the exact same broken pivot shoes on my upper window. I may just replace the shoe but if I go with the modern solution I have a question. Can you explain how I get the weight of the sash? Is that the weight of the entire upper window removed? I took off the existing spring and there are no markings on it showing the weight.

Yes, you will need to take the sash panel out of the window and weigh it on a scale. Any common bathroom scale will do. Then, you just divide that by how many springs support it.

For example, if the sash is 20 pounds and you have 2 springs per side, you want the 5 pound weight option for each spring.
