Problem with Sash Controls model 2260

A handy person from Massachusetts says:
I have a Sash Controls model 2260 that has key entry on the outside but I am missing the key. I removed the two screws on the inside and removed both inside and outside handle pieces with the intention of going to a locksmith. But I noticed the holes in the door where the screws came out, now is covered with a plate that either fell down or is spring loaded. Any ideas how to deal with this?

Dave Sr. from SWISCO responded:

I'm thinking you might have a "steel" reinforcement metal piece in the door. It is possible you could have just dropped down. You might be able to put a screw driver or awl into the hole in the door, then force the steel plate out of the way. Try forcing it upward until you can see that the mounting holes are open. Then put something like an awl or screw driver to keep the holes open until you reinstall the handle set. Let me know what you think.

A handy person from Massachusetts says:
Hi Thanks Dave; I replied to Kathleen and that's exactly what I did; used two awls to force the plate upward and then the screw holes re-appeared.
