How does 40-152 operate

Question

I'm looking to replace the door handle on a Cole Sewell (registration number 0729969604265) storm door. Product Code: 40-152 seems to be the right size fit. I'm confused about how the pull handle works. When I pull on the pull handle (from the outside) does that disengage the inside latch? My old storm door handle broke and it was a simple turn knob to disengage the latch. I just want to make sure the latch for Product Code: 40-152 engages and disengages properly.

My inside latch holes are 1 3/4 inches. The door is 1 inch thick. The outside plate that I'm replacing is 6 3/4 inches. The website doesn't say the dimensions of the Product Code: 40-152 outside plate. Can you tell me that size too?

Hello,

You are correct that the 40-152 external latch lifts up and has an internal spring-loaded pin that engages the internal latch to unlock the door. The total length of the 40-152 backplate is 8".

With that being said, we tend to recommend the 40-058 handle set to replace the old-style assembly shown in your photo. That's not to say that the 40-152 couldn't work as well but it is another option to consider. Take a look and see what you think.
