RE: Which weatherstripping will work?

Quick Learner from NY
Hi! I'm hoping you can help me find the correct replacement weatherstripping for my tilt-in windows. I've included some pics to help. The space I measured for the stripping to slide in is about 4/32 with a little bit of space on either side, so I'm guesstimating maybe 5 to 6/32 tops. The pile that's there now is about 1/2 inch high and fuzzing like crazy. I thought 58-127 might work at first but the pile isn't high enough and I'm a bit unsure if I can snap it in place. There doesn't seem to be anyway to slide it in other than to snap in a bit and somehow push it through. Any advice, suggestions, or recommendations?
Thanks for your time,
Lillian

Your wool pile size is unusual. A base width of only 5/32" is pretty small. You may want to remove a sample and confirm, as these measurements can get very specific.

Since the ends of the slot are sealed, you may need to use a utility knife to make a small opening to allow you to remove it.

Hi Tom,

I did as you suggested and it was crumbling a bit so the closest I could measure was 7/32" or 3/16". From what I could measure of the pile, it's about 1/2" and only on the lower part of the top window pane. I have enclosed additional photos, so maybe that might help identify it. I appreciate your help with finding the closest match. I have several windows with this type and hope to replace this weatherstripping on them, since the windows are in good condition otherwise.

Thank you,
Lillian

We do carry the 58-198, which has a 3/16" back and a 7/16" height, which is just under 1/2". As for installing the wool pile, in some cases you can take the sash apart, but your sash appears to be the Welded type and can not be taken apart. You could cut away some of the welding at the corner to expose the end of the wool pile groove. That way you can slide the wool pile into the sash at the corner. I myself don't like to do this if I can avoid it. What I would try to do is to remove the old wool pile first. With the wool pile channel clear, I put one leg of the new wool pile into the groove, then with the back of a razor blade in a utility knife I run the other leg into the opposite side of the channel.
