REPLACE DOOR LATCH

Quick Learner from Long Branch, NJ
Latch on the left is the original part. On the right is the replacement part one our our local hardware stores assured me was a standard size. The original has a depth of 1 1/4", the replacement 7/8". Alignment matches in all other respects.

Could our 82-218 work? Take a look at the dimensions below and see if this would be a good match.

I think you need to check the measurements.
The 82-218 is slightly under 1-1/4" at the widest part.
Your roller appears about 40% bigger, so it is more likely close to 1-3/4" deep, unless the pictures are not scaled the same. Maybe you meant 1-7/8" and had them reversed?
I have not seen any similar part that deep.
Your best bet may be to re-drill the handle holes in a position that lines them up with the replacement spacing.
Maybe other views of your original would help?

Can you go into more detail? Why won't it align properly? When you looked over the dimensions I posted above, where does yours differ? I also recommend reading over the response from our friend in California, he offers some great advice. I agree with him, I think your dimensions may be different from what you originally gave us.
