RH Awning Window Operator question

The hole spacing for the bracket is the 5-1/4" top to bottom. The operator link arm is 2-3/8". The issue is the handle comes out of the operator when closing counter clockwise at about 30% remaining before secure. Operator can open windows fully and bring them back in to some degree. Sunroom was installed around 1984-1986. Columbus OH. Thanks
