Rehab of 18 windows

Quick Learner from Burlington, Vermont
Hi we have ~18 windows that all need balances. I am unsure what specifically the ones we have are, though I suspect they are spiral balances. Attached photo's of broken balance. Sashs are 22#, lower sash is 28" tall, overall window 53 1/4(?).
Photo's show; tube attachement at top, I expect the top of the insert section is supposed to attach at top of tube. Bottom anchor point does have a spiral within the spring in it's fallen position. Didn't figure out how the bottom is attached/detatched.
Any and all knowledge gained appreciated. Guess these are the newest windows I've tried to rebuild :-)

Many thanks for your post. Just double check the length of the balance tube you show in the last photo. I believe it may be 27". If so, we believe you need S500-27 Spiral Balance with a 17-012 bottom bracket sold separately. See below for our generic instructions:

First drop the balance behind the sash and screw it at the top with 33-017 screw. Raise the sash and have someone hold it up, while you place the 17-012 bracket under the sash and have it corral the spiral. Screw the bracket to the sash. Continue holding up the sash while you bring the spiral up to the the bracket. Now turn the spiral clockwise with 75-005 tool about four turns. Then lock the bow tie at the end of the spiral to the 17-012 bracket. Do the same on the other side and try the sash. If it creeps down, give the spiral another turn.
