Rekeying an 82-086 legacy set

Quick Learner

I recently ordered a Legacy Keyed Handle Set for a patio door order #82-086. I am a locksmith and I tried to rekey the cylinder to the clients key and I could not get the key into the cylinder. They are both Kwikset keyways and should go into the cylinder but it was to tight to get into the keyhole. I tried to modify it and it is better but I was sure the customer would not like the way it felt. What can you do for me to help.

Thanks,

Phil

Our supplier suggests using the Kwikset key way, but we also found it did not fit properly. That's why we brought in the 82-322 key blank so customers could make up extra keys. I know they make a key cylinder similar to the 82-310, but it takes the "Schleage" key (which we cannot supply), but I don't think they have one to fit the Kwikset key. Sorry that we can't offer an easier solution!

That's totally understandable. To be honest, the keyways for these locks are peculiar. They're not exactly Kiwkset, though they're made to be. It's why we had to bring in that specific  82-322 blank, which really only works for this lock. Sorry again that we can't help.
