Removing window balance from jam

Hi there - I have Silver Line windows (about 20 years old) and many of the pivot shoes are broken. In order to install the new shoes, I need to get the metal window balance out of the track. Will your Jam Spreader help with this? From what I can tell, it looks like they are only useful for removing the pivot shoes, not the actual balances themselves. There doesn't seem to be any way to get the metal balances out. Thanks.

Hello,
It is unusual for the type of channel balance assembly to be wider than the opening in the jamb liner. It seems like the balances may have been installed with the window, leaving no good option to replace them. You could try using jamb spreaders but I'm not sure if you'd be able to angle the balance enough to remove it from the opening. Keep in mind that spreading the jamb too wide can result in damage.
If the jamb spreaders don't work or if you're concerned about damaging the jamb, I would recommend having a professional evaluate the window to determine the best way to remove the original hardware.
