Replace Balance so that it opens and closes easier

2040 number. The window weighs 16 to 17 pounds. Balance height is 21", width is 5/8", an 11/16 deep. The shoe has a PAT 6598264, metal clip is at the very bottom. Note: where the metal clip goes onto the window frame hole is half way, i've seen others where the hole is up high, on mine its in the middle. It is very difficult to open/close the window, and when removing the balance, the spring was very compressed

As for the placement of your clip installation in the middle of the window jamb, that is typical for this type of balance, so it shouldn't be a problem. Thank you!

A little more info, reason for replacing my balances is the hope the new ones will be quiet. Mine are working, but make screeching noises.

I tried using silicone lubricant spray on the spring but no improvement, in fact a little worse maybe.

I hope a new one will resolve the noise

I'm not sure why your balances are noisy but still functioning properly. It could be that your balances are just getting older and may start to fail soon, which could be why they're so noisy.

Another possibility could be that the original balances were not calibrated to support the weight of your sash. If you'd like to give us your exact sash weight before ordering the new balances, we'd be happy to confirm if they will provide the necessary amount of support. Thank you.

I don't have the sash weight or how to calculate that. I know my window weight is 16 to 17 pounds

I can tell you that the balances we sent you a link for will support a sash weighing between 15 - 23 pounds, so you should be good to go as long as your weight range is accurate.
