Replace Window Cranks

Handy Person from Houston

Hello, looking for help identifying some window crank replacements that I have that either don't work well, or work but crack/pop as the window is being opened closed. I have several broken, but wanted to start with trying to fix one from each side before I commit to buying a ton of parts for all.

If you can help me identifying any parts I need (not just the crank mechanisms, but also the plastic piece from the inside, the seal for it, handle, recommended screws, etc.) I would be very grateful.

Window Crank:•    I uploaded 3 pictures, 2 from one window, and one from the other side. If you can also tell me which one is considered "right arm" vs. "left arm" for my understanding when I order more in future.•    Handle on Left side from the interior, window opens from the right side towards the left - part on the metal bracket says "DURA C004".•    Handle on the Right side from the interior, window opens from the left side towards the right - part on the metal bracket says "DURA C006"

Locking Bar:•    The latch that locks/unlocks the window, has a metal bar attached to the side that pulls it up and down. I uploaded 2 pictures for this.•    This metal bar is attached by 3 plastic pieces (based on google believe it’s called a tie bar) for each window, with 3 screws. Identifier on it is “ACME 2020”. I think this is your product code 39-417, can you confirm? Do you have recommended screws, as the ones I have seem to be a bit rusty.•    The bar is 1/2 inch width, and 58-7/8 inches long (see picture of bar). Would you have these metal locking bars also? See picture which shows the bar and location of 4 bumps that hook against the window hooks to pull it in / lock it tight.

One thing I wanted to add - the dimensions of the windows (glass from inside) is 2 ft by 5-1/2 ft, so these are very tall windows. Home is 14 years old and a lot of the mechanisms are failing and I have 15 of these windows. Let me know if you have a "standard" option and also a "heavier-duty" option so I can weight the price differences. Looking forward to your help/recommendations.

Hello,

Your operator resembles one of the Encore operator pairs shown in the video below. The determining factor would be the fitting used to attach the long arm to the sash track.

As for the tie bar guide, I agree that the 39-417 would be a good option. We also offer the 39-448. These are versatile parts, as indicated in the video below on these guides.

As for the tie bar itself, unfortunately, we do not carry the length you need. We also do not offer replacement screws since the correct fasteners depend on the screws used for the original installation. If some of your screws need to be replaced, I suggest bringing the originals to a local hardware store so they can match you up with the correct replacements.

Review the parts related on this page and the associated guides to help you through the repair process.

Amazing, thank you for guiding me and linking the products. I took one off and it's the 39-253 variety with the req'd 39-529 piece. I will buy 1 of each side and if I can fix this myself, will come back for a few more.
