Can't tell what type of window. Balance tube is 34 inches. Single hung aluminum. Sash does not appear to be removable. Probably need about 34 units IF they are changeable with the sashes installed. (Concerned about how to install bottom if sash cannot be removed)
Replace spiral balance
Hi, Jack. It looks like you have a tilt in window. I see the tilt latches on the top right and left corner of the sash. These release the sash so it can be tilted inside to clean it. Measure the diameter of your tube. If it is 3/8" you'll want to look at our S900-34 balance. If it is 5/8" in diameter, please see our S600-34 balance. Be sure to check out the list of videos we have compiled here. They will help you understand how the balances work.
Your sashes are definitely removable. Looking at your photos, I see nothing that would prevent that. I've never seen a tilt window whose sash couldn't be removed. Where exactly are you running into problems? Once you tilt the sash in, you should be able to just twist it out.
Is it common for the sashes to not be removable? It appears that the lower attachment can be made from the outside if the window is tilted in but how would I do the upstairs windows?
Note: the spiral balancer connects to the shoe which is attached to the lower corner of the sash and in a groove of the sash (see photo).
Thanks
Jack
