Replaceable?

Question

I have a set of double hung tilt windows with this brake mechanism. I haven't been able to figure out how to remove the balances, there isn't an obvious screw or release lever at the top. The windows are double glazed Duralite if that helps. I'm in San Francisco, also in case that is helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for posting. I believe this may be a ribbed Series 751 channel balance, in which case you'll need to remove the entire jamb liner from the window to get the balance out. See the video below which details this process and let me know if this helps. If this doesn't seem right, please explain why and send photos, and we'll get to the bottom of it. Note too that we'll then need detailed pictures of the balance to fully identify what you're working with. Many thanks.
