Question

I need to replace all of my balancers. These two are from two different windows. They are the same length and width but notice the spring is loaded in a different position. One window is 47" and the other on 50". Based on measurements your recommendation is the 30" balancer. Please advice is this makes a difference or just go base on length and width.

Hello there. In this case I wouldn't worry about the spring and guts or how they look. It appears you have either an S378-30, S380-30, or S385-30 Channel Balance. The difference is the shoe depth. See below. You then have to choose a stamp, which reflects the strength of the balance. Your old stamp is from a rating system we don't recognize (29-9). To know what to pick, weigh each respective window sash a set of balances. You can use that weight to choose the right stamp option.
