I need a replacement balance for one of my windows. The existing balance has no nomenclature on it, so I don?t know the manufacturer or weight capacity. The attached photos will hopefully give you the information needed to specify a replacement.
If it?s not clear from the photos, the overall metal-to-metal length is 24?, and the channel width and depth are both 5/8?. According to my bathroom scale, the sash weighs 31.6 lb.
Given that this one failed after very little use on a pretty heavy sash, I?m thinking I?d be well advised to replace both balances. I?d appreciate your opinion on this and anything else you think might be helpful.
As a side note, I?ve had my share of difficulties with the balances on several of my other windows. I have to say that I?m not pleased with their performance or construction, but I?m not about to suffer the cost of an entire repeat window replacement. Depending on how well the new balances behave, I might decide to replace all the others that exhibit marginal performance.
