Replacement Channel Balance

Home Owner from California

We need to replace a channel balance that is stamped " 26 4 BU CMC 2". Haven't been able to locate anything exact online and do not know the window manufacturer.

Do you have a replacement that would work? And do your channels come with the plastic bits on the top and bottom???

I'm so lost. Please help.

Thank you, in advance.

Hi Bonnie. Thanks for your patience during our busy season here. Don't worry, I can definitely help you through this. Don't worry about the window manufacturer; channel balances are pretty generic across brands. The three most important factors to consider with a standard, non-tilt window channel balance are the following:

  • The length of the metal channel, not including the nylon attachments at either end. Now, based on your stamp code of '26 4', I know that your metal channel should be 27" long (the 26 in the stamp code refers to the height of the visible glass in the window, and the channel balance is typically 1" longer than this; hence 27" long). Still, it's best to confirm this just to be safe.
  • The style of the nlyon attachments, which determines the kind of balance you have, or what we call the balance Series. If you could send us pictures of these attachments, that will help us instantly determine the balance series you have (and to answer your question, yes, these come installed with our balances!).
  • The stamp code, which determines the strength of the balance. Your stamp code of 26 4 conforms to our stamp option of 2640. You'll need this once you know what balance Series and length you're working with.

So basically, send us pictures of your balance's nylon attachments, and we should be able to tell you what you're working with and what you need. Just let us know, thanks!

Yes Bonnie that is very helpful. However, we also need to see a photo of the other end of the balance, showing the other nylon attachment. From there, I know we can find you what you need.

Thanks for the additional photos. I believe you may be able to use our S385-27. Take a look and see what you think. If this looks right, then you will use a 2640 option that holds a sash weight of 19-26 pounds. Look it over and let us know if you have any further questions.

I took new pics from all angles, hoping this is what you'll need. I wasn't sure when you remarked that you needed to see the "other nylon" attachment because it looks like there's only one...?

Please let me know what's next after you review this.

Thanks, Bob!!
