So far, it sounds like you are on the right track. Do you happen to have the coil removed from the window? If so, we'd like for you to look at the end of the coil spring. There should be a stamped number on it. Please provide that number. It will let you know which coil part number to choose. Let us know if you have any other specific questions about the Series 170 coil balance.

There is nothing on the coil how else can I tell what coil it is

Thanks for getting back to us. Since there are not stampings/markings on your coil, the only other option to determine which coil to order, you will need to weigh your window sash on a scale and divide it by the number of coil springs being used on each side. For example, if you should happen to have one coil spring on each side being used, and your window sash weighs 20 pounds, then you would divide it by two giving you 10. So you will then order a coil spring with a 10 pound option. I hope this has answered your question. You can always send us photos of your coil and we can take a closer look for you.
