Replacement for Anderson Sash Balance 11600R-2

Question

I have a 20-year old Anderson double hung window (each sash measures 36" wide and 27" high) in which both sash balances have failed. The part number of the old sash balance is 11600R-2. On your web site, one of the postings said that the replacement for the 11600R-2 is the 24-531. So I ordered two of these and installed them without any problem in installation. However, neither sash stays in position. They both fall. It's as is these sash balances can't quite handle the weight of these large sashes.

Should I have ordered different sash balances that can handle these heavier sashes? If so, is there any way to return the 24-531 balances and get a refund?

Thanks for your question. We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your replacement. The stamped number you are mentioning does not narrow down which sash balances can be used as a replacement. Usually, you will see a second set of numbers stamped on the adjacent side of the first ones. Please see if you can find those numbers and provide that information to us. You may also want to upload a photo or two of the sash balance for us to take a look and see what we come up with.
