Replacement of all our Milgard balance springs.

Handy Person from Pagosa Springs, CO

Hi.

I have 19 windows where I have to replace Milgard window balance springs. Milgard models #19 3 BSI TT (actual 20 1/2"); #25 4 BSI TT (actual 26 1/2"); and #13 4 BSI TT (actual 14 1/2"). I have measured from the very top to very bottom including plastic ends.

I have noticed that the small clip in photo #2 seems to fall into the frame slot photo #1 You can see the clip installed but it is just long enough not to fall in; but they will soon work themselves into the frame and then slip out and retract; no longer holding the window.)

Perhaps you have another clip arrangement that will hold better.

My totals are: 12 each of Model 25 4; 8 each of Model 13 4; and 18 each of Model 19 3.

I would like to get initially two of any of the about sizes to ensure they will properly work if possible.

Please advise if this is possible and what model in your stock to order.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

William

Thanks for posting, William! We can make these balances, but they will have to be a special order. Thanks to your helpful information, we have everything we need. I'll send you a custom order link and price quote for each balance in the quantities you've requested.

Concerning that metal clip you asked about, I'm afraid there is no other style that will work for you. There are other styles, but they're usually not compatible with the window. That said, I've never heard of these falling into the frame before, though. I don't think that's supposed to happen. I wonder if these are what you need after all.

Are the balances you have now recent-ish installations? Maybe in the last 5-10 years? If so, do you have another window in your house that may have the original hardware? If so, that would be a good clue.

In the meantime, I'll send you an order link for the pictured balances with that same clip. I hesitate to recommend anything else without knowing for sure that you need something else. These clips get kind of particular, and at least we know that these work (even if they can be frustrating). I don't want to risk sending you a custom balance only for it to simply not work from the get-go.
