For your wood sashes, our Series 500 spiral balance with our 17-012 balance brackets should work in place of your current balances. Please provide us with the tube lengths of the balances. The brackets hook onto the balance spiral. To install these balances, you would drop them from the top on the side of the sash. Use a screw, like our 33-017, to attach the balance tubes at the top. Next, raise the sash and have someone hold it up while you attach the 17-012 with a screw, like the 33-090, while the U-shape opening corrals the spiral. With your finger bring up the spiral to the bracket and attach our 75-005 charging tool and turn the spiral clockwise three turns and hook it to the fork of the bracket. Repeat the other side and try the sash. If the sash creeps down, raise and hold up the sash. Give the balance another turn or two. See if that helps. Get back to us and let us know how you make out.
