Replacement units for older casements

These older handles are getting very loose and I was wondering if they make any replacements for them or if we have to replace the whole crank system. the plastic bushings where the cranks go in have worn some but the metals on the crank and unit are ok. You can still wind them open and shut but the handles lift right off with no resistance. these windows original were sold at Home Depot and made under the name of American Craftsman ( by Anderson) and we put them in about 18years ago. They have been great with the exception tag I have several that need attention to these cranks and I am looking to get maybe 1/2 dozen replacement units but can't find anything locally. Any suggestions? Thank you for your time and any help you can give me. Bob Giles

Thanks for contacting us. These older hex style operators had a major problem in that the "collar" that held the handle in the operator mechanism would come loose, exactly like you describe. They don't make them like this anymore for that reason. The modern replacements, the 39-329 and 39-330, use a spline type handle like our 39-114L or 39-205.
You can probably still use your existing hardware, but you'd have to either glue the handle in place or use scotch tape to sort of "pad" it out so it's not quite as loose. Personally speaking, I'd just go with the newer models so you don't have to worry about it anymore.
