Replacement window spring/balances

A home owner from Syracuse NY says:
Like many others I have Patriot windows that Ryan Homes installed that are all breaking. Mine were installed in 2008. I have read all the other questions and determined that I need the 795 channel balance. I have some that are 36" and some that are 30". My question is about the weight. The old one I took out is stamped 36B. I weighed the window and it is 22lbs. Should I use the B or C weight? Are these all breaking because the B is topping out at 22lbs? Would the C range be a better option for longevity?

Tom from SWISCO responded:

Hello! If your sash is 22 pounds exactly then the B option should work perfectly fine. It is rated to lift 22 pounds, even if that's on the high end. You could go up to C if you wanted but you very likely won't notice a big difference.

Please note that balances like this typically last only 10-15 years, depending on how often they're used. Seeing as how yours were installed in 2008 then they're probably just at the end of their lifespan.
