I have single hung (tilt out) windows, heavy with dual glass panes. Don't know brand, but metal and older. One spiral balance and shoe has given me trouble for some time. Had shoe replaced some time back, but balance keeps coming out. So, I am going to attempt to replace balance and shoe. From what I have determined, I need your Pivot Shoe 15-015; Spring Balance S600-30. Do I need a new piece to hold the balance in the frame? There's a short piece at the top, inverted channel, with screw holding the balance. I assume this is OK, but don't know. I don't know how to remove the bottom sash completely. Guess I'm afraid I won't get it back. Would appreciate being talked through removing window and installing shoe and balance. Do you have a "how to" instruction sheet available?
Also would like to use the 26-028 Tamp-R-Lok to prevent further problems with balances. Does that piece fit the 15-015 shoe?
I'm pretty handy, but this project makes me nervous. I recently ordered a charging tool for the balance spring. Thought that would do the job, but further inspection makes me think I need to do the replacement noted above.
Thanks for your help.
