Replacing an internal latch with a surface mount latch

Quick Learner from Ashland, Oregon
Hello! I need to replace an internal latch on my aluminum double hung tilt window. I watched your video on this task and I believe you mention that it's a vinyl window in the video. Can this same part be used on an aluminum window and is the process the same to replace?
Thank you

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to us. Aluminum and vinyl windows tend to follow different rules. Without knowing more about the hardware you're dealing with, all we can say is that the odds of our vinyl window video being relevant are unlikely. Would it be possible for us to see some photos of the internal latch in question?

Sure! One side is broken and the other side is missing, so the lower panel wobbles forward and backward a bit. There's not much holding it in place.

Thanks for the photos! Based on what I see here, you should be able to follow along with our video tutorial below to adapt a surface mount latch to your window.

Let us know if you have any other questions!
