Replacing sash crank

Question

How do I get the sash crank out of an installed window? I have a crank assembly that is broken and it is not obvious how to get it out without taking the entire window assembly out. Please tell me that is not necessary!

Take a look at the video below, which I believe is very helpful in this instance. It features a different operator but the concept is the same.
