Replacing sealed-in wool pile

Home Owner from Arnold, MO
My windows have the wool pile with a fin strip. My questions are how to remove the existing wool pile. As shown in the two pictures, there is no opening at either end for the weatherstripping to slide in and out of. It's like it was sealed in after the weatherstripping was installed. I assume I'll need to cut an opening to be able to replace it? What happens with the vertical weatherstripping if I cut an opening in one end and I slide the window up and down, will the weatherstripping slide out? I guess I'll need to use some hot glue to hold it in place. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for posting. If the ends of the channel are sealed, then you will have to cut the old wool pile out. Installing a new length might be tricky, but it's possible. You'd have to ease it in with a putty knife.

As for the vertical strip, it shouldn't fall out if the channel isn't sealed. The base should fit pretty firmly in the channel. If yours does not, you may need a different sized pile.
