Replacing simple glass pane with thicker Insulated Glass Pane

Question

I have vintage aluminum, crank out Awning type windows in my Florida home. There are two to three windows panes per opening. I wish to replace all the glass panes with insulated glass panes. These glass panes are held in place with an outside aluminum glaze strip, such as you show in your video.
My question is; the single glass pane is about 1/8" thick. The new Insulated glass pane will be 7/16" thick. The window is set into a deep enough pocket to allow for the thicker pane but, this will require a thinner glaze strip. Once I know the width of the gap after install the insulated pane, where can I purchase such glaze strip?

Thanks for posting! When identifying the replacement glazing bead for windows, we typically recommend the replacements based on the existing strip from the window. There are many unknow factors especially given that the window is a different size from what was previously installed, if only slightly. For example, I am uncertain if you will need the same shape or if the other specifications may need to be different. Among many other things.

I would recommend starting with taking a look at the glazing bead we sell in the Snap-In Glazing section of our online catalog. While we do have a large variety of replacement glazing, that does to guarantee that we will have the replacement needed for your window.

The window supplier may also be able to give some insight as to the type of glazing bead you need.
