Roto Casement Track Slider for a Vinylite Casement window installed December 2003

Home Owner
The window is used as a egress window in the basement. When opening and closing the window the window goes off the bottom track and just has a white stub instead of the same track slider that is located at the top of the window. The top of the window goes in and out with no issue while the bottom falls off track and we need to fight it to get it back on. All other parts seem to be working without issue it just falls off the bottom track.

It sounds like you're having an issue with the hinge, but I'm having a hard time picturing what you've described. At this point I think the best next step would be to get photos of your setup so that we can help further. Thanks!

As seen in the photos the bottom portion of the window is not working correctly. It does not stay in the track and only has a stub on it unlike the top that has the black track guide.

Thanks, I think I understand now. It sounds like either the slider is broken or there is some obstruction that is forcing the slider out of the track. Your first step should be to remove the sash from the window and give the hinges a good cleaning to see if that helps. That'll also be a good opportunity for you to check to see if anything is significantly damaged, which would give you your answer right away.

If nothing is obviously damaged then for now just clean and lubricate (I like to use silicone spray) and put the sash back to see if that helps.

If you do need an all new hinge then we can help with that. I can't see your whole assembly very clearly while it's installed but I suspect it's something like our 36-048. This is a fairly common sight on casement windows like yours and even if it's not exactly the same as your original, it should still work as long as you replace the top and bottom at the same time. There are exceptions to this, though, and if you have any doubts then I would just need a clear photo of the hinge assembly without the sash or frame getting in the way.

I also recommend watching the video below for more information on how this kind of hinge works.

Sorry I haven't replied for a while, injured my shoulder and was unable to do much. Here are few better photos of the window.

The Bottom photos show that the it is off track and there is nothing there to keep it on track. The Top photo shows that the top is on track and there is a black plastic piece that is holding it on track.

Hello again! These photos are a huge help. I think my prior assessment was more or less accurate. The sliding guide is missing from your bottom hinge assembly, so it is effectively useless. The top hinge is pretty much doing all the work here.

In this case you will need to replace the hinges entirely. I am confident that our 36-048 will do the job, but like I mentioned previously, you will have to replace the top and bottom at the same time. You don't want to mix old and new hinges or else the operation won't be symmetrical.
