S500 Spiral Balance Installation

A handy person from Connecticut says:
I installed 2 S500-25 blue tip spiral balances on the lower sash of a large window. It appears that I cannot set the tension low enough for the window to operate properly. Either the balance raises the sash from the closed position or the spiral rod detaches from the bracket when the sash is in the full open position (because of little or no tension).
Any suggestions?

Hello,

I would recommend having someone hold the sash up while you disengage the Series 500 balance from the metal bracket using the 75-005 tool. While holding the sash up, bring the spiral up to the sash bracket, hook the 75-005 tool and turn the spiral three to four clockwise turns. You should feel the tension building. Then, hook the spiral bow tie to the sash bracket.

Repeat the process on the other side, install the top window stops, and try the sash. We also have a guide to help with the process, which you can view here. Thank you!
