S770 channel balance installation help
It's hard to tell from your photo. It's possible you have to remove the jamb liner to remove your balances, but that's not common for the Series 770. Are you sure that's what you have?
Watch the video below for more insight on what I'm talking about.
No, it's definitely a 770. I think that piece of plastic just slides in the channel. I think I can slide it down, unscrew the old channel balance and remove it from the channel, then slide the new one in and drive the mounting screw. The only tricky thing is that the plastic will hide the lower end of the channel balance so I will have to install it with charging tool attached, or possibly a piece of twine I can pull to charge the hidden balance. Does that sound right?
This is my window that has the broken balance.I've pushed the plastic down in the channel. Will my new 770 Series balance engage this hook? Or should I just drive a screw through the balance and the jamb liner into the jamb?
I really can't say, I've never seen a Series 770 balance set up like this before. It shouldn't have to engage with any hook, these are supposed to just screw into the jamb track at the top. Some older some Series 770 balances were made with a hook on top, but the hook is attached to the balance itself, not the window track.
Looking at this photo, part of me feels like that plastic you're mentioning is just a balance cover. These usually just squeeze on and off. But again, I can't be sure.
