S900-29 green tip spiral balances

Quick Learner from United States
Hello,

I've replaced the balances in my 18-pound vinyl window with the SS900-29, but they're not raising as high as they should. I changed the balance 5-6 times, which a representative told me is the max I should charge it. Any idea how I could correct this? I've purchased more balances for my other windows and will see if the problem persists. Thank you!

Thanks for posting. If the window is sliding down, then it's possible the tip option you selected isn't strong enough for your window sash's weight. Can you obtain the exact weight of the window sash? That will clue us in as to whether or not you need a balance with a stronger spring calibration. Many thanks.

Bob,

I weighed the window as it is 18 lb. Your service team high recommend that I stayed with the green tip. I even a couple times about doing up to the next level. I just bought as they are being shipped 20 more in green and if this is an ongoing problem I will really be upset!

Hm, this is very unusual. If the window weighs 18 lbs, and if the S900-29 indeed matches your old spiral balance, then the S900-29 with the green tip option should be exactly what you need. Going to a stronger color option would not necessarily be the correct move here, as a balance calibrated too strongly for your window would prevent you from keeping the sash closed.

I've brought this discussion to the attention of one of my senior colleagues for further assistance. He recommends that it would be best to circle back to the beginning. Do you still have any of the original balances on site? If so, can you confirm the length and diameter of the outer tube? Could you also show us a photo of one of the new balances installed in the window? Let's cover all our bases here to make sure we can get this right. Many thanks.

Bob,

Yes, i have confirmed the length of the balancer as I even matched the new and the old together. I also confirmed the diameter as that matches up as well. For the window that is 29inches i already took out the new balance as it was not working and correctly have nothing in the window. I also replaced the one in my bigger window for the 35inch as i have the same problem as they will not stay fully in the up position. Once again, I'm turning the tool around 5 times. I told the rep from my call today that I'm following the video and turning it counter clockwise. As Tim said it needs to be clock wise. But after thinking about what I'm doing if you look at the top view of how I'm turning it, it is clock wise.
I really think that I need the yellows, the green works fine in my smaller windows and that is with 3-4 cranks.
Please advise as i'm getting frustrated.
Thanks,
John

Hi John. If the window does weigh 18 lbs than I don't see why the green tips would not work. That said, you can see our Return Policy here for the balances you bought if you want to return them. If you went with the S900-29 with the yellow tip, bear in mind that the yellow tip is for a window sash in the weight range of 24 through 34 lbs.
