What Andersen does for replacement balances is this: they realized that the travel of the cord doesn't need to be exact, AS LONG AS you use the longest possible cord length. You're safe if you overshoot the length instead of undershooting it. So, the 1033 holds 10 pounds with a 33" travel. For a window that only needs 31" of travel (1031), the extra 2" just... won't matter. The window will open and close all the way, and there will still be a few inches of unused cord inside the balance. Since all the balances beginning in 10 hold the same weight range, they all can be replaced by 1033. All Andersen replacement balances are optimized this way, so that they can replace multiple originals. |

I would say no, not really. In that case, the weight is going to be off. The 11xx balances hold heavier sashes and therefore pull harder. If the window needs 1033 and uses 1133, it will lift very strongly. Possibly too strongly. |
