I have 2 red tip spiral balances on each side of the window (4 total) Can I replace these with one black tip on each side?

Hm... I am not sure. Perhaps the window manufacturer may have had good intentions using red tipped spiral balances as opposed to two black tipped balances. It may have been that the black tip had too much tension to lower the sash easily.
