Sash window balances

Question

Need 12 (6 windows) to repair. The only number is stamped "27C". The metal itself measures 28", so not sure what it means.

Thanks for posting. See either our S351-28 or S390-28. The only difference between these two balance Series is the 'depth' of the bottom nylon shoe. The Series 351 bottom nylon shoe has a depth of 1", whereas the Series 390 bottom nylon shoe has a depth of 1-1/8". Compare with your old balances and see what you think matches best.

Once you know what balance to select, you must choose a stamp option. Your stamp code of 27C conforms to our stamp option of 2730; this is for a window sash in the weight range of 13 through 19 lbs.

For reference, the first two numbers of a stamp code generally refer to the visible glass height of the window. Typically, a channel balance's length, not including the end attachments, is 1" longer than the visible glass height. That's why you your channel balance is 28" long, while the stamp code begins with a 27. The rest of the code refers to the spring calibration within the balance.
